Knowing all the safety rules and regulations is almost impossible for people trying to run their businesses. However, having a strong, effective safety culture in your company is easy. In order to get the ball rolling you need the following items:
- Commitment to ensuring that every employee returns home safe, every day, every shift.
- Willingness to enforce your safety policies and procedures and follow through by documenting your disciplinary violations.
- Identify the hazards that each type of employee will face, develop Job Safety Analysis procedures for them to learn prior to beginning work.
- Require every employee attend a formal safety orientation prior to beginning work.
- Develop a training program that gives immediate priority to the most dangerous work processes.
- Train your supervisors to conduct daily Job Safety Analysis prior to work commencing.
- Train your supervisors to conduct weekly Self Safety Inspections.
- Set the example for working safe!
